Summer is here and the sun is hotter and brighter than ever! Time to keep that sunscreen on hand. Many of us walk out the door and don’t even think about putting sunscreen on. Or we’re in a hurry, need to get to our destination and forget to apply it. We should all think safety first, I found these helpful hints on My Life and Kids. Here are a few tips to choosing, and wearing, the right protection for your skin.
Try to get your family into a routine of wearing sunscreen every single day. While out driving on a road trip, or if its just cloudy out that day, don’t forget to put some on.
When shopping for sunscreen at the store make sure to read the label. Check to see if the one you are choosing has Broad Spectrum. This protects anyone against UVB rays and UVA rays, sunburn, skin cancer and early aging. SPF 15 or higher is also best.
You can get sunscreen in a spray, lotion or stick, all three are fine as long as they are labeled with spectrum and SPF 15 or higher. Don’t spray the sunscreen on you or your child’s face. Use your hands and fingers to apply the sunscreen.
More is always better than too little when it comes to sun lotion. Lather on golf ball sized dollops to cover you and your children from head to toe.
Fifteen minutes before heading out to run errands, swim in the pool or beach make sure to apply sunscreen.
Try to set up a timer on your phone or watch and remind your self to apply more applications of sunscreen on you and your children every two hours. Especially if your engaging in activities that will make you perspire, water resistant sunscreen needs to be applied again.
The suns rays most severe between 10am- 2pm, so try to run errands, trips to the park, etc. in the early morning and later evening.
Don’t just protect your skin, protect your eyes as well. Try looking for sunglasses that have 99 to 100 percent UV protection for every family member.
If you have a baby who is six months and younger try to limit their sunlight contact. Make sure to apply sunscreen, have light clothing on, keep them under a shaded place while outdoors.
Doesn’t matter what skin color you have, everyone should apply sunscreen every single day to help protect there skin from the strong rays that the sun gives off.
I hope these special sunscreen tips become part of you and your family’s daily routine. Speak to your child about the importance of protecting their skin and how harmful the suns rays can be.
