Most children love fireworks, and others sometimes are a bit scared. Help them ease their minds with this solo cup trick I found on Love2Dream.
Head on over to your nearest firework stand and grab a couple of boxes of sparklers and starter sticks. I always let my son pick out the ones he wants to light. On your way home don’t forget to pick up a bag of red solo cups, and a lighter if don’t have starter sticks. Make sure to read the warning labels on the fireworks and remind your children the importance of being safe while using fireworks and the potential dangers.
Next, set the box of sparklers, solo cups, and a knife on your kitchen counter. (Parents you should do this step, especially if your child is younger.) Grab your knife, turn a solo cup upside down and puncture the bottom so that a sparkler fits through. Don’t make the hole too big though, you still want the cup to shield your child’s hand from the lit sparkler.
Now head outside and test your sparkler shield out! Make sure your child is holding onto the metal end and that the sparkler end is sticking out completely from your little puncture hole. They want to hold the sparkler handle right against the bottom of the cup so it doesn’t slip down. You can also bend the metal end of the handle right above the sparkler end to guarantee it doesn’t slip through.
Now light up your fireworks and have some fun!
**Please remember to use fireworks as your own risk!**
