Being a mom is an absolute blessing, but the energy that it requires can be draining. Children seem to have endless amounts of it, and as parents it can seem impossible to keep up. The following 6 tips offer realistic methods of boosting your energy when you’re running on empty.
1.Drink a bottle of water: The effects of mild dehydration can set in before you realize that you are thirsty, causing fatigue and a lack of energy. Quickly drinking a bottle of water can give you a quick pick-me-up by offsetting these effects.
2.Take a shower: Taking a few moments to yourself to wash up can replenish your energy supply and make you feel brand new.
3.Utilize the TV: Although it can be seen as bad parenting to use the television as a babysitter, it is okay to allow yourself 20 minutes of rest by relying on the TV to distract your children. This will allow you to be more attentive and energetic for the rest of the time you spend with your children.
4.Exercise: You don’t have to spend an hour at the gym every day, but finding some activity to get you moving for a few minutes is very beneficial to your energy supply. Take a walk around the block, or spend some time doing stretches at your home. If you’d like to get your kids involved in the activity, put on some music and dance around with them.
5.Never skip breakfast: Studies show that when you eat in the morning, you are more likely to feel satisfied. This can help you to feel more energized over the course of your day.
6.Establish a bedtime for yourself: According to the National Sleep Foundation, adults should get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Trying to fuel yourself with coffee or soda throughout the day is no substitute for a good night’s rest, so it’s important that you make sure you’re getting an adequate amount of sleep!
Although kids are always a priority, it is important to take care of yourself too. Use these tips to make sure that you are the best mom to your children that you can be!
