Most kids come home after school hungry, but for many families, dinnertime isn’t until later in the evening. Snacking before dinnertime is just fine, but snacking on healthy foods is even better. A more nutritious snack won’t ruin your children’s appetite for dinner later on.
Here are a few after school snacks that your kids might enjoy:
Green Avocado Smoothie
-1 banana
-1 c. Water
-2-3 handfuls of Spinach
-1/2 c. of other fruit (berries work well)
-1/2 Avocado
Directions:
1. Throw the spinach and water into the blender first. Blend them together for about a minute.
2. Then add the remaining ingredients in and blend again until smooth.
Now, you can pour and serve this to your hungry children, or depending how old they are, they can make this themselves!
Ants On a Log
– Celery sticks cut into sections
– Peanut Butter (any brand you and your children like)
– Raisins (you can buy the small boxes)
Directions:
1.Wash your celery well, then cut the celery up into smaller pieces.
2. Spread the celery dips with plenty of peanut butter. Don’t be stingy now 🙂
3. Now, open a box of raisins, these will serve as our little ants, and place them across the peanut butter, as if they are following each other in a line.
This is a fun and healthy snack your little ones will enjoy, and parents can munch these too. Bon appetite!
Frozen Yogurt Pops
-1 c. plain yogurt
-1 peeled Banana
-Handful of frozen or fresh berries
-A couple of squirts of honey
-8 paper cups
-8 popsicle sticks
Directions:
1. Place all of your ingredients in the blender, and blend them until it’s all smooth.
2. Now, get those paper cups and evenly pour the smoothly into each one.
3. Next, place the sticks in the smoothie mix and place them in the freezer for 2 hours or until they are completely solid.
Now, your children can enjoy a refreshing afterschool snack on those hotter days.
Apple Sandwiches
-Apples (depending how many your going to make two should be fine!)
-small cookie cutters
-Peanut butter
Directions:
1.Wash the apples first.
2. Cut the apples up horizontally.
3. Then get your cookie cutters and use them to core the apples.
4. Spread peanut butter on the apple slices.
5. Last get two apple slices and put them together as if you were making a sandwich, and place them on the plate.
These are some of my favorite quick and easy after school treats the tots will be sure to love! Have your own favorites? We’d love to hear about them!
