Make Rhyming Fun!

With this easy activity your little one will be rhyming (and learning!) all the time. Rhyming is a great way for any child to learn how to read, sound out, and break down words. And best of all, it’s a game that the whole family can play together.

Supplies:

– Baby jars or any other container
– Package of popsicle sticks
– Painters tape
– Permanent marker (dark color)

Lay out all your materials on the table or surface of choice, and grab the tape. Write down a few words that will make good rhythms like star, dog, bug, and book onto the tape roll, or cut a long piece of tape out, stick it onto your surface and write the words down. Cut out your words and stick them on your baby jars or containers.

Then, write down some words that rhythm with the jar words on additional tape and wrap them onto the top of your popsicle sticks like a little flag. Set the finished sticks in a pile next to the jars and call your child over to have some fun!

Have your little one sound out each word to help him or her figure out which popsicle stick words should be placed in each jar. This activity is a great way for them to learn not just rhyming but reading, to visualize each word as they’re sounding out. Who knows it might just be your little ones next favorite game!

If you have a child who isn’t reading yet, they to can still learn and join in. Instead of words you can use pictures and help them along the way with some examples of how to sort and group the pictures! Do you have any fun rhythming games? Let us know in the comments below!
