School may be out for the summer, but who says the learning has to stop? Thanks to many fun reading activities and events in Houston, you can help your kid stay ahead of the curve in class — and ensure they have a blast at the same time! Here are a few reading challenges/programs your little ones can enjoy this summer.
The Houston Public Library: Aim for the Stars
Your kids still have a couple of weeks left to register for the Houston Public Library Summer Reading Program. The Aim for the Stars program encourages kids to keep learning over the summer by giving away fun prizes after they’ve read a certain number of books, ranging from a free book to a Houston Astros game ticket. Visit the Houston Public Library’s website today to learn how easy it is to register and complete the challenge.
Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge
The Scholastic “Be a Reading Superhero” challenge lasts until September 9th, giving kids the opportunity to unlock stories, earn rewards and enter for a chance to win Klutz books! All your kids have to do is read and log their minutes throughout the summer. Visit Scholastic’s site to get started.
Chuck E Cheese: Reading Rewards Calendar
If your kids love Chuck E Cheese, take advantage of their favorite restaurant’s summer learning program to encourage reading at home. They can win 10 free Chuck E Cheese tokens by completing two full weeks’ worth of reading. Visit Chuck E Cheese to print off the calendar and learn more details.
Sometimes, all your kids need is a little motivation to find and read books they love. Sign up for one or even all three of the programs above to help your children stay on the learning track even in the summer.
