As a parent, it is important to spend quality time with our children. Engaging their minds with arts and crafts is one way to make good use of this precious time. The “Bottle Bank” is a homemade piggy bank that will spark your child’s creativity, while simultaneously teaching them the importance of budgeting!
What you will need:
– Empty bottle (2 liter soda bottle, bleach bottle, etc…) with cap attached
– Scissors
– Construction paper
– Double-sided tape
– Hot-glue gun
– 4 empty thread spools
– Pipe cleaner
How to create your Bottle Bank:
1. Rinse the empty bottle well with hot, soapy water. Make sure that all of the original contents are fully washed from the bottle.
2. From the construction paper of your child’s choice, cut features like ears, eyes, and a nose.
3. Attach these features with double sided tape onto the respective areas of the bottle
4. Tape a piece of construction paper around the body of the bottle
5. Hot glue the four empty thread spools on the bottom of the bottle for legs
6. Cut a 1 inch slit in the top of the bottle for coins and dollars
7. Puncture a hole in the back of the bottle to insert the pipe-cleaner as a tail
Voila! Your child now has a healthy sense of accomplishment and a new piggy bank. Oink, oink!
