Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and the Houston area is loaded with events celebrating the big day. Traditionally, St. Paddy’s Day festivities are geared towards adults and focus on local pubs and drink specials. However, the city also hosts a number of family-friendly activities for all ages.
Houston’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade
The annual St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Houston is one of the largest across the U.S., with more than 100 floats each year featuring Irish music, step dancing, and entertainment the whole family will love. This year’s 58th annual parade will take place on Saturday, March 11. It starts at noon near the Clock Tower on Texas Avenue. Check the full parade route to pick the best viewing spot for your family. The parade is free for all ages.
1960 St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Another parade option is the long-time favorite in Spring, a small northern suburb about 20 miles out of the city. The parade features floats, Irish dance troupes, and involvement from local businesses. Special events also take place before the parade, including a 5K where runners and walkers chase a leprechaun. The parade starts at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 12 and travels approximately 3.5 miles down Farm to Market Road 1960. View the parade route and start planning your family’s trip.
Clover Picking at Harvest Green
After the success of last year’s first clover-picking event, Harvest Green Village Farm in Richmond (approximately 25 miles west of Houston) is once again inviting families to come search for lucky four-leaf clovers in their clover patches. Don your green attire and head to the farm for this unique St. Patrick’s Day activity. It’s on Friday, March 17, from 5-7 p.m. The event is free, and all ages are welcome.
St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at the Woodlands Children’s Museum
The festivities at Woodlands Children’s Museum include a traditional Irish dance performance from the McTeggart Irish Dancers, themed story time, crafts, and a visit from a leprechaun. Kids can even join the hunt to help the leprechaun find his pot of gold. Head to the museum, located approximately 30 miles north of Houston, between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, March 17, for a fun and educational St. Patrick’s Day. The activities are included with the museum’s regular admission, which is $6/person.
St. Patrick’s Day fun isn’t only for adults. Celebrate the holiday with your kids at one of Houston’s family-friendly events.
