The Houston Museum District has so much to explore that it could really keep you busy, and since it’s just a small part of our city, let’s name 5 things we must do!
1. See it all on Free Admission Thursdays! Some Houston museums are free every day, but all are open for free on Thursdays. It can get quite busy during free hours, but it is a great day to see everything. Check the hours, stop by the museums and decide which ones you want to visit again!
2. Find the Art in the Park! For the 100 Year Anniversary, art is popping up all over Hermann Park. You will find the stick house, giant spider, painted train tunnel and so much more. Explore the park on foot, or take the park train for an easy tour with your kids.
3. Get your hands dirty! On the first Saturday of each month, join the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft for the free Hands-On Houston event. The craft changes each month and has included wooden cars, clay bowls, beaded bracelets and more!
4. Travel to the rain forest! Head to the Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Museum of Natural Science to find a 3-story glass structure and a 50-foot waterfall! Tickets to the Butterfly Center are separate from the rest of the museum, so you can just visit the hundreds of species of exotic butterflies and insects or explore the whole museum!
5. Join all of Houston at the Children’s Museum! Houston has an award winning Children’s Museum, and everyone loves it. Crowds can be large, but the secret is to find your own spot. Look around to find an empty room and spend your time immersed in just a few activities rather than fighting crowds at all the activities.
What else is on your Museum District Bucket List? Tell us!
