Thanksgiving is approaching. It’s time to pull out the fall decorations! One of the favorites is Indian Corn.
You can find these at any craft store. Or you and your kids can do this activity for a little math learning AND decorate with it!
Supplies
- Scissors
- Crayons
- Glue stick
- The template (download free here)
- Construction paper (optional)
Instructions for Coloring
Pick 4-6 different colors for your Indian Corn. Colors like browns, reds, yellows and oranges work great.
Color each of the “kernels” of the corn. Each kernel should be a single color.
Instructions on the Math
(Of course if this panics you, skip it. Math should make us happy, not anxious.)
Count the number of kernels on the corn. (hint: there are 100 :D)
Each kernel represents the fraction 1/100, 1% or 0.01 as a decimal.
Count the number of each color and fill out the chart. Then fill in the fractions, percents and decimals that go with each.
Complete the Artwork
Color and cut out the the husks (those strange curvy things) and the corn. Glue them together or on a piece of construction paper and decorate!
